UDADA FILM FESTIVAL 2014

Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony and launch of the inaugural UDADA Film Festival was held at the National Museums of Kenya at the Louis Leakey Auditorium on 24th October from 5:30pm - 9:00pm.

Screenings

Films were screened daily from 25th-29th October from 2pm-8pm. Goethe Institut and at the Michael Joseph Centre.

Filmakers Forum

Filmmaker's from the region who submitted their films were invited to attend a forum to discuss film development, financing and distribution. Broadcasters had also been invited to talk to filmmakers about the kind of content they need in future.

Films

We received 105 film entries from all over the world.

Them Nights

Different cultures were celebrated during the theme nights and this added to the learning experience of participants and visitors.

• Spanish Night - Michael Joseph Center 28th October 5:30pm - 8:30pm

• French Night - Alliance Francaise 29th October 5:30pm - 9:00pm

Students Forum/Capacity Building Workshops

Film students from Kenyatta University, Multimedia University, KIMC and others were invited to the capacity building workshops quoted below:

•Film Funding by Judy Kibinge- The Filmmaker and Entrepreneur introduced DOCUBOX, a documentary film fund that she initiated through Ford Foundation.

•Co-productions in film by Tsitsi Dangarembga – Ms. Dangarembga is a renowned Zimbabwean writer (Winner of the Commonwealth Prize for Literature), a film director and producer from Zimbabwe. She is the founder of the only other women festival on the continent (IIFF). She is a graduate of the German Film and TV Academy (DFFB) Berlin.

•Acting for the Screen by Stephanie Stremler. Ms. Stremler is an award-winning film actress fom Germany. Through the generous support of Goethe-Institut, the actress flew in from Geman, to show her film and to facilitate an acting workshop.

•Film Criticism by Dr. Racheal Diang'a - Lecturer at Kenyatta University at the Department of Theatre Arts and Film Technology.

•Film Distribution and Social Media by Eva Mwaniki - Social media strategist with Millenial Consult.

•Film Copyright Issues by Dr. Marisella Ouma - CEO Kenya Copyright Board
